4D microscopy is the study of three-dimensional specimens as they grow or change over time. LOCI has developed a suite of free software applications which allow researchers to perform 4D studies. Links to pages which describe these software applications in greater detail are displayed below.

4D Movie Demo

Below is a 4D (3-dimension + time) movie that was composed by 3 focal planes - focal plane 2, 4 and 6 (for demonstration purpose we only picked these 3 focal planes to use.). Try to go up, down, forward and backward to see how biological events change along with the changing depth and time. For instance, you might see nuclei in focal plane 6 but not in focal plane 2 and 4.

Click on the center button to play this movie.

Data Browser Plugin for ImageJ

To facilitate quick browsing of multichannel 4D datasets (such as those produced by WiscScan), we have created a multidimensional data browsing plugin for ImageJ.

Please visit the Data Browser web page for downloads and more information.

VisBio

VisBio is a biological visualization tool designed for easy visualization and analysis of multidimensional image data.

WiscScan

WiscScan is an integrated firmware system based on latest generation digital signal processors that allows full control the scanning system of the optical workstation and will allow full software control of the laser-scanning system and the laser microbeam.
