Optical:

• A multiphoton/confocal imaging system has been developed specifically for in vivo imaging and for making comparisons between confocal and multiphoton imaging.
  
  
• An Optical Workstation is being developed that combines the functionality of a multiphoton imaging system with a laser microbeam apparatus for use with non-imaging experimental techniques. This system is currently operational but is being continuously upgraded.
  
• A high-speed multiphoton system is currently being developed.
  
  
• Novel, high-speed combined spectral/life-time detectors are being developed that will be eventually deployed on the Optical Workstation and the high-speed multiphoton system.
  
  
• A Ultrafast laser testbed is being developed for studies in the physical and biosciences. This will be used for pump probe experiments in the physical sciences, MP imaging in the biosciences, and multidisciplinary experiment with second and third harmonic generation imaging.

Computational:

• Tools for the Open Microscopy Environment are under development. This work also includes the development of several ImageJ plugins such as the 4D Data Browser.
  
  
• A biological visualization tool, VisBio is being developed to allow easy visualization and analysis of 4-D multispectral data (stacks of slices of biological data with multiple color values, animated across time).
  
  
• A advanced instrumentation reservation system called LoCal is being developed for equipment calendaring and user management.
  
  
• A unified software system, WiscScan, is being developed for the control of all image acquisition systems at LOCI.
